How do I create a label image with drag and drop item?

In Mastery Connect, you can create a label image with drag and drop item. A label image with drag and drop item displays an image containing empty response containers. Students must must drag and drop answer choices into the correct empty response locations on the image.

Note: District and school administrators (admins) can also create items directly in the district item bank.

Add New Item

In the Global Navigation menu, click the Assessments link. Then, follow the steps to create a new item.

Enter Question or Instructions

Enter the question or item prompt in the Compose question text field [1].

In the Image preview section, click the Edit button [2].

By default, an image of a world map displays in the Image Properties window. To upload an alternate image file from your computer, click the Replace button [1]. 

For additional options, click the More Options drop-down menu [2].

To format the image size, click the Unlock icon [3]. Then, enter dimensions in the Height and Width boxes [4].

To host your own online image, enter the URL in the Image URL field [5].

To save changes and upload an image, click the Save button [6].

Enter text that displays when the image can not be displayed to the student in the Image alternative text field [1].

Optionally, you can enter text that displays when the cursor hovers over the image in the Text on hover field [2].

By default, the Response Containers section displays one response container with no pointers [1].

To move a response container, drag and drop the container to another location.

To resize or reshape a container, click the resize handle and drag [2].

To indicate a spot on the image, you can add a pointer on the container. To add a pointer, click the Point button [3] and select a point location (top, right, bottom, or left).

To add another response container, click a location on the image. You can move, resize, reshape or add pointers to other response containers.

To delete a response container, click the container. Then, click the Delete button [4].

To set a fill color for all the response containers, click the Fill color box [1]. In the Current color window, enter a color's hex value or click a color box [2]. You can change the opacity of the color. Then, click the Apply button [3].

To allow more than one response per container, enter a maximum number of responses allowed in the Maximum responses per container box [4].

To remove the dashed border on the response containers, click the Show dashed border checkbox [5] to remove the check mark.

To add ARIA labels for each response, click the Edit ARIA labels checkbox [6]. Then, enter labels for each container.

In the Possible responses section, replace the default choice names with the item possible responses.

To put possible responses into groups, click the Group possible responses checkbox [1].

Enter a title for the group in the Title field [2].

To remove any possible responses that should not be in the group, click its Delete button [3].

To add other possible responses to the group, click the Add button [4].

To create another group, click the Add Group button [5].

Enter a point value for the item in the Point(s) text box [1].

To set the correct answer, click and drag the response choices from the list [2] to the correct response containers [3].

To optionally enter an alternate correct answer, click the Add icon [4].

To leave possible responses in the list even after they are placed in a container, click the Duplicate responses checkbox [1].

To display a drag handle on the left of each possible response, click the Show drag handle checkbox [2].

To shuffle the possible responses each time the item displays, click the Shuffle possible responses checkbox [3].

To make the possible responses transparent, click the Transparent possible responses checkbox [4].

To add additional scoring, layout, and other options for the item, click the More options drop-down menu [5].

To add optional features to the item, click the Add Feature button [1] and select the features you wish to add from the drop-down menu [2].  Learn more about adding passages and other features.

Note: The Desmos calculators are only available in districts that have paid Desmos subscriptions.

To preview the item interaction, click and drag the possible responses to the response containers on the image.

To view correct and incorrect answers, click the Show Answers checkbox [1]. Correct answers display a check mark and are shaded green [2]. Incorrect answers display an X and are shaded red [3]. If the answer in a response box is incorrect, the correct answer displays beneath the number line in a response box with a check mark that is shaded yellow [4].  

The number of points awarded for the item as answered in the preview window over the number of points possible display in the scoring bubble [5].

Save or Publish Item

To save the item as a draft and keep editing enabled, click the Save As Draft button [1]. When you save an item as a draft, it can be edited and deleted in your personal item bank and by admins in the district teacher item bank.

To disable editing and share the item with teachers in your district, click the Publish button [2]. When you publish an item, it displays in the district teacher item bank and is available to all users in your district. You can delete the item from your personal item bank, and admins can delete the item from the district teacher item bank.

To disable editing and share the item with admins only, click the Publish & Reserve button [3]. When you publish and reserve an item, you can delete it in your personal item bank, and admins can view and delete the item in the district teacher item bank.

To delete the question and return to the Create New Item page, click the Go Back button [4].
