Canvas New Quizes Removal Time Limit (Unlimited)

Hello, 

I have a question about the time modification or removal of the time limit. The test that I have built in new quizzes has a time limit of 2 hours, but I need to accommodate one student by removing the time limit. I followed the instructions to modify the time limit but when the student started the quiz, the timer started at 2 hours. Is this an artifact of the original time limit set for the quiz? Does this mean that the student would have unlimited time, or does it revert to the time limit set for the quiz?

I just tried this myself, ad when I moderated the quiz to allow for unlimited time for a user, then went to begin taking the quiz as that user, it correctly showed unlimited time.  I wonder if your student had perhaps started taking the quiz before you did the moderation to allow unlimited time (in that case, the time limit would still apply, as moderation does not affect in-progress quiz attempts).  Does this seem like what may have happened?

Thanks for your reply. I don't think this was the case. The modification of the test time was done last week. When the student emailed me, I checked the modification, and it stated it was unlimited. Is it possible that I am something that I am missing in the process of modifying time limits?

Hi Dawn,

Weird.  I have not been able to reproduce this scenario myself, so I'm not sure if it was perhaps a one-off glitch or if we're just not understanding the entire scenario.  At this point, I'd recommend reaching out to Canvas support to see if they have any suggestions or if they perhaps know how this issue may occur.
