To Our Amazing Educators Everywhere,
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Here at University of Canberra we use Proctorio for remote proctoring of exams. Although we are yet to activate New Quizzes here at Uni Canberra, we are getting interest from some of our Unit conveners and would love to enable the New Quiz tool, but feel that the lack of Third-party Integrations (Proctor/Security) is a cause of concern for us.
Specifically of concern to us is the apparent lack of support for third party proctoring software!! (In our case -- Proctorio)
The Comparison document still does not even hint that this is being looked at, for any tool other than Respondus Lock Down Browser, which I note it listed as available now.
@richardsonji (31-03-2020 03:49 AM) also has a similar query and raises valid concerns about the new quiz tool. (Remote proctoring in New Quizzes)
"We have used Proctorio for remote proctoring of exams. We have a instructor who has put all of his quizzes in New Quizzes. Now that we have to go remote, he has found that Proctorio does not work with New Quizzes. There isn't a way (that I know of) to pull quizzes from New Quizzes into the old quizzes. How can we proctor quizzes with New Quizzes?"
Hi there,
My school also uses Proctorio. The last time I spoke to my account rep about this, which was around the end of April, I was told that Proctorio is actively beta-testing their extension within New Quizzes and that they are hoping to have it live before most schools' Fall term begins.
I attended a Proctorio event and they are actively working to make the two work together.
We've heard from Proctorio and other LTI providers that Canvas is having trouble with the New Quiz integrations. This is a huge complaint about Canvas from my faculty. Any timeline would be helpful for the Proctorio New Quizzes integration.
@leaj It is there now and seems to work from my testing. We don't have any faculty actively using it but we did test it when Proctorio told us it was active a few months ago.

@nwilson7 agreed we too from the limited testing we have done so far, the Proctorio extension seems to be working well, although we have noticed the "Proctorio" gradebook does not become available until at least one person has completed/submitted their quiz.
I still don't think New Quizzes is working with Proctorio. Only Classic Quizzes. Very frustrated that New Quizzes still isn't integrated.
@veritas05 Curious what part is not working for you? It is in a different location, it is in the quiz settings and not on the assignment page.
-Nick
I only see Proctorio settings on Classic Quiz settings, not New Quiz settings.
@veritas05 After you create a quiz, in the build area, click on "Settings". The magic is Proctorio needs a time limit so add a time limit and then at the very bottom a toggle to Enable Proctorio should appear. If enabled, you get all the Proctorio settings.

And how can we disable "require a password" we set up an exam and even though Proctorio was configured correctly all our students were asked for a password. Since it is managed by Proctorio we did not have the password
Hi @leaj, we sometimes encounter this issue also even while still using the classic Quiz tool, the current work around for us is we get the students and staff to ensure they have the most recent version of the Proctorio extension form the chrome webstore (https://getproctorio.com/). As you would be aware the Password created by Proctorio is normally only for the tool to confirm that the person entering the exam has the right to do so i.e. they have the most recent edition of the extension installed on their browser.
It's a bit clunky, yes, but we find it solves many issues around exam time. We have also set a site where students who are expected to do a formal proctored exam at the end of semester, can do a Proctorio health check on their device, as it is has been set up to mimic an exam that has Proctorio enabled. We find that this also reduces the number of students having trouble accessing the exam as they will reminded, they need to update both browser and the extension at least every 3-6 months.
Hope this helps
@leaj The password is how Proctorio works in the background so you can't disable it. There is a way to get it but if you tell it to students, then that bypasses Proctorio. When students get that error (the request for the password) that means they do not have Proctorio enabled correctly. The easiest fix is to re-install proctorio and of course make sure they are using Chrome as their browser.
