We recently had the privilege of hosting a group of inspiring educators from across Europe and Africa for a Customer Discovery Session in our Budapest office. This day of collaboration and conversation gave us rich insights into the everyday experiences of teachers using Canvas, and revealed exciting opportunities for us to evolve together.

These moments of direct connection with educators are incredibly valuable as we design the future of Canvas.

Here's what we explored together:

Building Meaningful Collaboration in Canvas

  • Educators shared their vision for how Canvas can better support student-to-student and teacher-to-teacher collaboration. We explored opportunities to enhance group work, co-teaching workflows, and communication across course sections, with a shared goal of making collaboration more natural and visible within the platform.

Reimagining Mobile for Real Teaching Moments

  • The group highlighted mobile as a key enabler for quick, impactful actions, especially around grading and feedback. We discussed ways to enhance Canvas’s mobile experience to support on-the-go teaching, making it easier to respond, review, and connect with students in more flexible ways.

Unlocking the Potential of SpeedGrader on Mobile

  • Educators shared exciting use cases for SpeedGrader on mobile, particularly in hands-on or professional learning environments. They pointed to opportunities to streamline grading tasks, introduce tools like comment libraries and quick scoring, and improve efficiency in time-sensitive settings.

Simplifying and Enhancing Course Page Creation

  • We heard strong enthusiasm around the potential of the revised Block Content Editor and the possibility of the use of AI to support content creation, specifically in expediting the creation of course structures based on existing materials. There’s a clear opportunity to help educators build engaging, well-structured pages more easily, while also ensuring flexibility and alignment with institutional standards.

Advancing Accessibility as a Core Workflow

  • Accessibility remains a shared priority, and we explored how Canvas can help educators address it more proactively. Participants responded positively to a solution in active development that offers contextual guidance and visual clarity, with the goal of embedding accessibility naturally into the course-building workflow, not treating it like a checklist.

Looking Ahead

The insights from this session are already informing our product thinking. We’re excited to build on the ideas shared, especially in areas like collaborative learning, mobile productivity, content design, and accessibility and we’re committed to continuing this conversation with all of you.

A heartfelt thank you to all who participated and shared their expertise, feedback, and energy. This partnership helps us design tools that reflect the realities and ambitions of modern educators.

Let’s keep building together!
