Welcome to the first edition of the Prompt Spotlight Series, where we feature prompts by real Ask Your Data users – prompts we think are worth exploring.

These questions have caught our attention for a variety of reasons: they’re frequently asked, especially timely, or offer a fresh way to look at Canvas data. We share them to inspire curiosity, experimentation, and conversation within the Intelligent Insights community.

✳️ User Prompt

"Show me all users with a role name that includes ‘XXX’ or ‘YYY’ from courses in the term 'ZZZ' that contain at least one module where the module name contains ‘specific-module-name'. Include user email."

Why This Caught Our Eye

This prompt weaves together user roles, course context, and specific module naming – a powerful combination when trying to find the right people in the right instructional settings. It’s a pattern that could support content audits, role-specific communication, or checks around the implementation of certain module templates or requirements.

Ways to Adapt or Extend

  • Update the role names: filter for facilitators, designers, co-teachers – whatever matches your institution’s custom roles.
  • Swap the module filter for other content types or entities, like assignments or quizzes.
  • Include more user data, eg. full name of users.
  • Expand course filters: include specific subaccounts or instructional levels.
