Mia Wood, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA. She teaches courses such as critical thinking and writing, logic, ethics, moral issues, and topics in the history of philosophy. She also participates in campus-wide projects aimed at facilitating student transfers to four-year institutions and thematizing the general education program for greater comprehensibility. Mia’s main non-academic, non-fiction research interests are at the intersection of philosophical analysis and contemporary issues, such as same-sex marriage, economic virtue, and the death penalty. She also writes fiction (short stories and screenplays), has ghostwritten more than ten non-fiction books (mostly memoirs, but also branding and business titles), and ghosted the conversion of a dissertation and a thesis for mainstream audiences. Born in Manhattan to Gene and Carleen Wood, Mia was raised in Pelham Manor, NY, Malibu, CA, and various locations along the East Coast. As a successful junior equestrian (a national champion in 1986), Mia traveled extensively to train and compete. Although she decided to leave the sport almost 22 years ago to pursue philosophical studies, her love of horses has remained undiminished. Mia currently lives in Los Angeles with her partner, Nathan Lowe, an audio specialist and voice actor, and their two cats and three dogs. Among other activities, Mia enjoys hiking with her dogs, and working with Nathan on restoring their home, a 105-year old California Craftsman. In the summer of 2015, Mia and her family will relocate (for a year) to Little Compton, RI, where her mother maintains a home. During that time, Mia plans to write, write, and write some more!
