I have a student with difficulty uploading into Canvas, and he has emailed his essay to me. Is it possible for I as an instructor to upload this essay in his Canvas slot?

I have a semester class this year and I need to add in grades from the previous quarter, but it is closed. How do I open up that to grading. I have not been able to find that in the settings.
