In this Commons release (July 18), users can upload their own thumbnail image when sharing a resource to Commons. We also made updates to the resource details page and Commons home page. Also, Commons is now available and turned on in all Free for Teacher (FFT) accounts. Free for Teacher users are limited to finding, importing, and sharing public resources only. Private and account sharing are disabled Commons FFT.
For Canvas users, to have Commons enabled in your Canvas account, please contact your Customer Success Manager.
Upload Thumbnail Image
Users can upload their own thumbnail image when sharing a resource to Commons. On the image library page, users can use drag and drop or browse their computer. Users can also crop and preview their image prior to sharing their resource to Commons.
- The option to select a thumbnail is not available for image or video file types.
- User images are not saved in the image library.
This feature was originally suggested by the Canvas Community.
On the resource details page, users can view who the resource was shared by.
Home Page Banner
A new dismissible home page banner has been added to the top of the search page that allows users to quickly filter by resource type. When searching for resources, the banner will be hidden and will reappear again when the page is reloaded.
Note: Clicking the Hide This link will hide the banner permanently.
