This file is to accompany the Kung Fu Canvas blog, but can be used for anyone wanting to install Canvabadges.
Thanks for posting this.
I had tried to do this a while ago, added the app and everything. But the problem was copying the URL (that guy goes very fast, it is hard to catch what he is saying). The only thing that I could see that is different from what he is doing is this...
He has this; "Copy Link Address"...
However I don't have that...
That is the only thing that I see that is different with he is doing and what I am doing.
When I try to go into the External Link, I get this error message...
This is totally making me nut lolMike Cowen
In your screen shots, are you selecting the option "Copy Link Location" (which would be the equivalent to "Copy Link Address")?
Open Link in New Tab (then copied the url from the new tab)
Open Link in Window (then copied the url from the new window)
Save Link As
Copy Link Location
The instructions on canvabadges.org show an older method of installing Canvabadges. Please follow the instructions in the PDF document above. It does not mention (or need) the XML file at all. I also recommend removing the previous attempt at installing Canvabadges before attempting to reinstall it.
I think instead of clicking on the "Add App" button when searching for the Canvabadges app, you'll need to click on the "View App Configurations" button instead. Then click on "+ App". You'll want to choose the "By URL" (as the directions indicate on the Canvabadges website) option from the "Configuration Type" dropdown list. There, you'll type in the app name, enter in your Consumer Key and Shared Secret, and then there will also be a space to enter in the Config URL. This is where you'll enter in that XML URL you got from this website: Canvabadges ... which is this URL --> https://www.canvabadges.org/canvabadges.xml Hope this helps.
The Config URL method of installing Canvabadges seems to trip up a lot of people. That's why I created this new set of instructions, which does not need the user to enter in that info. Using the "Add App" button is how I instruct people to install Canvabadges. It works every time (if the instructions are followed .)
Oh...ok. Thanks for the info. Didn't realize that.
Tracie Bosket, Canvabades looks to be successfully installed. I noticed in the video at 0:29 that the badge setup had changed from the original setup. After installing Canvabadges, there is no need to change the badges at all. It should look like this:
Also, as a VERY IMPORTANT side note... The key and secret are similar to a username and password and should never be shared or posted online. They were included in your previous screenshots and video. I asked the Canvas Community admins to blur them for you in the screenshot and edit your video. Posting the key/secret is kinda like giving the whole world your username and password.
Okay, question 2.
How do you center the badge? Mine is left justified...
AHHHH, got it. You know about that part in the video that I clicked out because it wasn't loading? That was the prob! I tried again and it loaded and now it works great!
(PS Thanks for removing the video; I didn't know about the secret passwords)
