Group Deletion/Recovery Request

Recently, we had an issue where an instructor deleted a group set that contained graded discussions. We discovered that the “undelete” feature did not restore any deleted group sets or discussions. In working with our internal support team, we recovered items through the data in the beta and test environments.

As we are limited to what can be restored based on the data refreshed in the Canvas environments, we want a way to restore deleted groups and work associated with it.

For this reason, we would like to submit an enhancement request for a way to recover deleted groups and its associated work.

You mention that you worked with your internal support, but not whether you contacted Canvas Support to help you with this, so just in case, please know that our support agents often work miracles with retrieving deleted content.

Hi Stefanie,

I was unaware of the alert it would send out to members who have voted on or are following this idea however the change I made was adding to the tags of the idea. I added the ubc, ubco, and university of british columbia tags.

Hi, I am an instructor and did exactly this...deleted student discussion groups created by students. I was not aware they had been using the groups to write project notes, etc. Is there a way to help restore these groups with all of the work they had entered and stored in the course shell? I have emailed my CTL and a CTL specialist with request for assistance and then came across this discussion thread. I tried the “undelete” route for the student created groups, but that didn’t work. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the students’ work can be restored. Thank you.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
