To Our Amazing Educators Everywhere,
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Buddy,
We implemented it September 2016. We have it enabled by default in each course. I'd be happy to help you out with any questions. We haven't heard any complaints, but I also don't have an idea of how many instructors or students are using it.
Thanks @gladysie !
Did you roll out both the faculty and student link at the same time? Did you encounter any difficulties or would you change anything about your roll-out? Is there anything we should pay close attention to during the process?
I've noticed that the first time you connect, it tries to force a pop-up window for you to connect to a B&N account, but that pop-up is blocked by all of my browsers by default. Safari and Chrome don't even acknowledge they blocked a pop-up, but Firefox told me. At first I thought it was broken because there's just a white screen and nothing happens. Is that happening for you too and do you just train people to disable their pop-up blockers before they try to use it the first time?
If you prefer to take this offline, shoot me an email and we can setup a call or something -- buddyhall@uky.edu
Thanks,
Buddy
Buddy,
I rolled both out at the same time. Our B&N bookstore sent an announcement to faculty and support offices, which I provided them with info on how it would look in Canvas. I also included a blurb about it in our beginning of the semester news letter. We didn't receive any negative feedback on the tools being enabled. I just inquired with our bookstore to see how it has been working out for them.
We did go back and forth with B&N tech support for awhile because of the way we map our courses in Canvas is different than the way our bookstore is mapping them. I sent them several examples and explained the naming convention and after a bit of time, they were able to map the two different course ids to one another.
Chrome notified us of the pop-up when testing. Granted I use a PC and not a Mac, so it could be an issue with Chrome on Mac. We encourage clients to add our Instructure instance to the popup blocker allowed list. We have a decent amount of LTI users, so most of them probably have it white listed already. If you have a central IT department that handles staff computers, you could talk with them to see if they could add it to the included browsers by default. It would help with campus owned machines.
