Hi @dalena_luis - I was intrigued by your question, because the documentation is relatively silent on this, though to be sure the Notifications setting for Grading is set to ASAP by default for students, though the fine print under that does indeed indicate grades and not specifically comments. I found out that students are not notified if you posted a comment but not a grade. I experimented in a sample class with a student that had an email account I created, making sure that the notifications were all set to ASAP. To account for a possible delay, I tried this yesterday and since that "student" has still not been emailed a notification, I have to assume the answer is still no.
Here's what I did:
-Created an online, file submission assignment in a course
-Set the grade posting policy to MANUAL
-Had the "student" submit the assignment
-I posted comments in the general comments section and submitted them.
-I then POSTED the ungraded assignment so that the student can see the comment.
Indeed, no notification for the student was available when I checked his email several times, nor was there anything in the student's INBOX. To be sure, the student could see the comments I wrote when heading to Grades and clicking on the comment icon, and likewise when heading to the assignment in question and viewing the submission details over on the far right side of the page. But no notifications. So indeed, you will have to let students know to check their comments if you have posted them.
I hope this helps a bit, Dalena. I learned something, too! Stay safe and stay healthy!
