The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Hello there, @markee ...
Sorry that your question has been sitting out here without a response for quite some time. Let's try to get your question resolved. First, everyone in your Canvas environment is first considered a "User". You add users either manually or via SIS import.
Once someone has been created as a "user" in Canvas, then you can enroll that person in a course as a "Teacher", "Student", "TA", etc. So, it is entirely possible that someone may be a "Teacher" in one course but taking a course as a "Student" in another course within your school's Canvas environment.
I hope this will be of help to you. Sing out if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
