I have a question for the Canvas community. Does anyway know how to enable the Doc viewer in a course or enable annotation. I found the link in Canvas https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12948-4152719763 The issue that has risen is an instructor that wants to annotate in the discussion question response of one of their students. If an instructor goes to Speed Grader in discussions it only has options to add comments. Not able to access the Doc Viewer or annotate in any other way. Any other tips or info on this would be great.
Hi David Summer,
Since Discussion posts are entered into a Canvas 'textbox', there is no 'document' or 'file' for Canvas to access and preview in order to 'annotate', which is why you can only add 'comments'.
I tried several different methods utilizing the 'textbox', and found the 'doc-viewer' with it's annotation tools unavailable for any use of the 'textbox' via SpeedGrader.
Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment. Also, if this question has been answered by one of the previous replies, please feel free to mark that answer as correct.

Four years later that Canvas still hasn't made annotations available in speed grading Discussions. Major bummer!
