I use a USB headset to talk with my students. If I show them a video (YouTube) from an embedded web link, they are unable to hear the audio. When the video is finished, my students are no longer able to hear me. I can exit and reenter the audio call (not leave the conference) and I regain audio capability, but this takes time for the echo test to complete.
Hi @saburnham I'm wondering about which platform you are using for your conferencing. My guess is, from your description, that it might be Microsoft Teams.
If that's the case then when you go to share your screen you will need to 'share system audio' to play a video or audio clip.
It took me a wee while to figure that out and was awfully pleased when I did!
Sing out if you are using a different conferencing tool. I'm sure we can problem solve our way through it.
@Bobby2 ,
Thanks for the quick response!!
I am actually using Big Blue Button through Canvas.
If I use my webcam microphone the kids can hear the video but it is harder for them to hear me.
If I use my headset the kids can hear me well but cannot hear the video when I play it. When I switch from video back to the headset then they cannot hear me either and I have to sign out of the meeting and sign back in to redo the audio check in order for the kids to hear me again.
Ah I see, If you are using Big Blue Button then, as far as I know, if you put the link to the video in the conference chat then the students can watch with sound. This helps towards different bandwidth at students houses. But a simultaneous experience with sound is tricky.
@Bobby2 , Thanks for the advice. I will assign the link as recommended and follow up accordingly.
Hi @saburnham I just found this guide which helps even more with video sharing in Big Blue Button https://support.blindsidenetworks.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025238131-Share-an-External-Video-Link .
Hope it's helpful for you!
It might pay to test it with a colleague before trying it with your students.
