Have you looked into using Mastery Paths at all? It would require you to have multiple versions of the quiz, but it would provide a way for students to read the two texts and then pick which one to proceed with and be directed only to that corresponding quiz. I'm not on expert on using them, but here is an overview video of how Mastery Paths work . I don't have any other ideas about how you can do this within a single quiz.
