[ARCHIVED] Can I have canvas stop converting uploaded student work to DOCX file format?

When I download in a zip file all the student essays that have been uploaded, I see that almost all if not all are docx files. Windows however is only giving me a word count with a few of them, which makes me think that Canvas is coverting these files to DOCX from another format (DOC, RTF, ODT).

Can I have Canvas leave these files in their original format? I already have it set to reject a file in any other format, so, for instance, they will not be allowed to upload PDF files.
