The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Our teachers are interested in a Pinterest style app for brainstorming. A bit more free flowing than a Canvas discussion or a Google doc collaboration. We'd like to ensure their thoughts are not on a public site in the event they share sensitive information. Does anyone know of an app in the app center that might provide this functionality? Thanks!
Hi @kristin_bayless , as you'll see, I don't exactly have an answer for you, but I wanted to let you know that because your prompt might elicit multiple equally good responses, I've changed the format to a discussion.
Now, on to my non-answer. I'm only familiar with Pinterest in passing (gasp!), and I don't have an LTI tool from the Edu Apps Center to recommend, but I wonder if Padlet might work for what you have in mind. It comes with a cost, but according to the website, ensures privacy of information within a school.
Thanks Stefanie! My understanding of Pinterest is also limited. We must be some of the few. I appreciate any leads. Trying to identify a specific app from the list is daunting without some guidance. I'll check out Padlet.
I use Pinterest (maybe too much) personally, and I've used Padlet for teaching. The only drawback of Padlet is that it does not provide threaded discussions. It would be a perfect tool if you could directly respond to a post. But it still might work for you.
Hi @kristin_bayless I just posted a long reply to a Pinterest query elsewhere here at the Community, and there might be some helpful information for you there. Using real Pinterest widgets in Canvas is not hard at all, so you don't need an App. The trick is just figuring out how best to make the power of Pinterest work for you and your students:
Thanks laurakgibbs this looks like a good resource!
Thanks, @kristin_bayless I'm glad to help and happy to brainstorm anytime. Pinterest is one of my favorite tools. ANYTHING with images is a big plus in engaging with students, at least in my experience. 🙂
Thanks a lot for sharing. I'm so much glad to have it here.
I also have a Pinterest account. I worked as a designer. I would like to promote my design there. How can I do that? What is the easiest way to do that? I don't have any better experience working with Pinterest. This time, I decided to read articles and watch youtube videos. I already read a few of them. This one for example https://masterbundles.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/a4-1_merged-1.pdf Let see what happen next. I hope this could be helpful for me.
Thanks a lot for your recommendation here. I will definitely try it.
