[ARCHIVED] Controlling when the assignment appears on the To-List for my students

How do I add an assignment to my student's to-do list?  I understand canvas adds it automatically but it seems to only show up on the date it is due and I would like for it to appear when I

actually post the assignment a few days before the due date.  Is this something I can control as the teacher?

Hi  @barbara_weizman  Welcome to the Canvas Community.

The To Do list helps students know about upcoming assignments and events. This guide will help explain to students How do I use the To Do list and sidebar in the Dashboard as a student?  

Of note:

To Do list displays the assignment name, the course name, the number of points, and the due date for the assignment. Once the due date has passed, items remain in this section for four weeks.
