[ARCHIVED] Copying quizzes or importing questions from a quiz into a Question Bank

Hello,

I did a bad thing.  At the start of the semester, I set up a pre-test for my students.  It was in the form of a Practice Quiz.  Rather than first add questions to a Question Bank, I just added them directly to the quiz. 

Now, I want to set up a post-test, using the same questions, but this post-test will be a Graded Quiz.  I cannot figure out how I can simply move all the questions from the pre-test into this new post-test.  Can I make a copy of the original pre-test and simply change the title and particular settings?  Or, is there a way I can import the questions from the pre-test into a question bank and then move them into the post-test?  I can't seem to figure out how to do this, and I want to avoid having to enter all the questions all over again.  Is the problem that the pre-test was originally set up as a practice quiz? 

I do see, among my Question Banks, one bank that says "Unfiled Questions."  I was hoping the pre-test questions would be in there, but I don't see them.

Hi  @everson_50 ​...

Give this a try...  in your course, go to Settings >> Import Content into this Course.  Select Copy a Canvas Course from the drop-down menu.  When it asks you to search for a course, you can choose the same course that you're currently in (you'll be copying/importing content from the same course to the same course).  Choose the Select specific content radio button, and then click the Import button.  You'll be prompted to select specific content.  Find the quiz that you already created.  When you import a copy of this quiz, it should give you a duplicate in your Quizzes area of the course.  You can change the settings as needed for this instance, and the original quiz should remain unchanged.  Just make sure to change the title of the duplicate so that you know which is which.  Hope this helps!

Thank you, Chris.  Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working for me very well.  I was able to copy it by doing what you said, and I could change the name of the assignment, etc., but it was showing me that a number of my students had already completed this new yet-to-be-released post-test (since it was simply copying over the completed pre-test results).  I was then seeing things in the grade book that should not be in there.

If there is a way I can just transfer the questions out of that pre-test into some kind of bank, that would be the best way to go, I think, but is that even possible?  I didn't know enough about Canvas when I set this up to realize it would have been best to put everything in a question bank right from the start.  I feel that I need to just start all over now.

I could be totally wrong on this, but that doesn't sound like normal behavior.  In my own sandbox course, I masqueraded as a "dummy" student to take a 13-question quiz.  As you can see from the screen shot, I didn't do so well.  Then, after I returned to the same course as an instructor.  I went to my "Settings" screen and made a copy of the quiz (this time appending "#2" to the end of the title).  When I went to the Gradebook, none of my "dummy" students had scores...they did not transfer from the first quiz.

My recommendation would be to contact the Help Desk staff at Instructure to see if they can help nail down the issue.  You can contact them by clicking on the "Help" icon on the left side of your Canvas screen.  Sorry that I don't have better news for you, but hopefully the Help Desk crew can be of help.

Thanks, Chris.  It might just be that I do not know enough about Canvas to explain the issue well enough here, or to recognize if there is an unwanted problem arising when I simply copy the original quiz.  I'll investigate in more detail.  I appreciate your help!

I'm very sorry I did not come back to this.  I'm still very new to this community and to Canvas, and I'm trying to figure it all out.  I appreciate the suggestions that were offered here, but, unfortunately, the only thing that worked for me was to build a brand new assessment.
