Hi, I am marking a set of new quizzes which I have to grade manually or partly manually. One of them is a fill in the blanks where I ask students to both write an answer and also choose from a drop-down list. The problem is that sometimes the automatic parts are graded as wrong (red) with the comment "missed option", but with the right answer framed, so it looks like the student has answered correctly but been marked wrong. In other cases (when they have to write the answer) the comment is No answer, and the frame is empty. I can see that there is a difference between dropdowns and open answers, but will not students, when they see this, think that the automatic grading has gone wrong because it looks like they gave the correct answer? Wouldn't No answer be better in both cases?
