[ARCHIVED] Difficulty importing from one class to another

I spent time fine tuning a course and want to overlay/import it to other courses (or is that export?), but it shows up in the transferred files, but it never overlays on the course - there is no change in the course layout when I then go check. I try clicking on it like is needed when you download it from commons, but it only takes me to the original course (trying to overlay a fifth grade course design to a fourth grade. When I click on the 'Fifth Grade' import, it takes me to the fifth grade course. Help!  Running out of time!

**Edit: I just read that the course I want to import **to** has to be an empty shell?  Correct? How would I do that? Or, should I just start a new class shell?

@barrdodds_judy  I have always had better results by using course import (rather than export) -- intuitively it makes more sense to me. You may want to read throughhttps://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-copy-content-from-another-Canvas-course... -- which will give you instructions on importing existing content into a different course.

You do NOT have to be importing into a new course. In fact, if you import into a course that has content, it will add that imported content into the existing content. What has always worked best for me -- if I want only certain elements from an existing course, when I do the import, I choose "Select Content" and physically choose the elements I want to import. If I want to completely replace content in an existing course, I first go to Settings and choose Delete All Course Content -- that wipes out any existing content so that when I do the import it is a true copy that I am importing.
