I want to embed some of my TikTok videos to my Canvas class. I do this successfully with YouTube vids all the time, but when I embed my TikToks, they don't show the nifty thumbnail like they should. I have tested the TikTok embed code in other sites, and it works fine.
I read here that mkv files aren't supported, but since this is an embed rather than an upload, I didn't think that would be the issue.
Any ideas? Looks like it does the same thing here as well - a link to my TikTok page, but no thumbnail of the video.

Because Canvas Discussion board is an inferior product but they don't care because they've got the district's ears and faculty don't matter
I also had this issue while trying to embed an instructional video from TikTok into Canvas. I ended up having to save the video as an mp4 file on my iPhone, then send the mp4 from my phone to my laptop, then upload it to canvas. Of course, Canvas still thinks that all videos should be landscape, so it changed the orientation of the video, thus decreasing its playback quality. Thankfully, I also put the link to the original TT video along with the mp4 so students could link out to the source.
The reality is that TikTok IS a viable source for instructional content just like YouTube, and I hope that Canvas eventually supports the embed code format and the vertical video orientation.
TikTok is increasing all the time in terms of its educationally-suitable offerings. I too hope that Canvas soon supports its embed code format and vertical video orientation. (The latter of these should be happening no matter if TikTok is or not - some students like producing vertically orientated videos and we should support them if that's what they desire.)
I'd love to help with your TikTok video embedding issue. I understand that you're able to embed YouTube videos successfully, but your TikTok videos aren't showing up with the proper thumbnail. It sounds like you've done some troubleshooting and have confirmed that the embed code works on other sites, which rules out a problem with the code itself.
