Hi

Is it possible to add a link in the course navigation bar to an external tool? I have embedded the LTI tool for the Springshare software (LibGuides) and would like to add a direct link in the nav bar alongside pages/modules etc.

As I understand the redirect app is for external links rather than LTI tools?

Some LTI's are configured with a navigation link, but it seems like the LibGuide LTI is not, so the Redirect Tool workaround appears to be the best option.

What we do in those situations is simply to modify the LTI tools XML.  If the vendor provides the XML, you can just edit it before you copy/paste it into the LTI config.  If the tool is configured via URL, that URL is just a link to a publisher hosted XML so you can just download it, modify it, and paste it in to the LTI config.  If the tool is manually configured, you can always create your own XML for it instead.

A GREAT resource to customize and create custom LTI XML files is  XML Config Builder.  Just plug in all your details and then check the box for Course Navigation.  Keep in mind that not *all* tools work with all types of uses, but generally, anything that can be used as an external tool in a module can often be used as course navigation too.
