I copied a course from last semester. The image files that were copied over will not publish even when I click on the publish button. It just keeps the default "Only available to students with link". The folder that the files are in is also hidden and will not publish. I have hundreds of images files that will not publish. Everything worked just fine over the summer, and this is a course copy, so I have no idea what happened. Any advice?
This comment was published a long time ago and there are multiple people with the same question. I am wondering why no-one from Canvas has responded. Is there an answer on a different thread?
My own situation involves a copied course, but the file is a new one, just to add a little variety to the situation.
I had this issue as well:
(a) new document;
(b) in a published module;
(c) once "published" it kept the "only students with link"
I was able to remedy it---and I hope this works for you:
My issue was that the file that I was unable to fully publish was in a hidden folder. So, I navigated to the files menu and created a new published folder for the module. I found the offending file in the hidden folder and moved it to the published folder and voila, it changed the file status in the module.
The problem for me was that the folder containing the media was unpublished. If you go to files section you will see all your various folders: course images, uploaded media etc. The trick is to click on the top one which will be your course name. Inside that will be all your files and the unpublished folders. You can then change the permissions on the folders.
Fairly frustrating 45 minutes of planning time just vanished working that out.
