[ARCHIVED] Google Slide in Canvas

This is a very specific question, and I am going to try and word it in the least confusing way as possible. I am an English teacher new to Canvas this year. In the past we have used Google Classroom. This year, I want my students to use DIGITAL reading and writing journals via Google Slides. I want to create the Google Slide and share it with them in Canvas in a way that will allow them to make a copy, that way they aren't all typing in one Google Slide. I then want to be able to view their work as they go along, and makes comments in their slide, throughout the year in Canvas without them having to submit it - like you can do in Google Classroom when you assign a doc or a slide. Is this possible, and if so could someone walk me through what to do? Thank you in advance!

If this is not possible, is there a way for me to share the slide to their Google Drive and then they access it throughout the year through Canvas, instead of having to login to their Gmail account?
