I am not convinced that peer review will work for me

i have 6 groups - working remotely; each to submit a video which another group will ask questions , each group to answer questions from others, give feedback to group being  reviewed

• will all groups need to be able to see all the videos for this to work?
• is  peer review even possilbe if all I do is allocate a submission to a named person in each group as there is an addtional elemt of peer review?  i.e.

day 1 - each Group to submit a group video  THEN

         - A allocated D to raise qns about presentation within 24 hrs             

         - B allocated E to raise qns about presentation within 24 hrs         

         - C allocated f to raise qns about presentation  within 24 hrs       etc for D-E

day 2 - all groups post questions of group presentation allocated

day 3    - all group ANSWER the questions raised by review group

day 7   - Review group to post feedback to group presentation allocated

 Presentations and all responses and feedback marked by tutor          

I need to have ONE place ** where all groups can see the presentations  

I am thinkng assessed discussion where team leader posts video first then sees allocated group post (+ groups told b4 submission which to review)

Then each team collate/ review questions, own reponses and feedback on reviewed presentation in own canvas group area

Team leaders  post questions , own team responses to qns raised, and feedback to group reviewed to assessed discussion area   **

not sure this will work if is set as assessed group work  so

a) maybe i just need an assessed group area in order to collate the videos and later provided assessed feedback via rubric

download the video and repost in a regular discussion post where starting point is postig of questions to be answered

or

b) 6 separate group discussion set ups - each with just the 2 groups in each - that way they and marker can more easily track the discussions

and one general group assessment area so that general feedback can be given in one place to each group - so just request link to group discussion

is there an easier way to all this and i am just over thinking it... help!

Oh, this is an interesting peer review workflow to think through!

To tackle the easiest aspects first:

If you need a single place where all groups can see all presentations, then you'll want to use a classwide discussion (probably graded, so you can give it a due date).

Whether you want to use Peer Review (for the class-wide discussion or for a group assignment) or a Discussion in Canvas to handle the feedback will depend on whether group members should be completing the review *individually* or as *groups*.

If they are responding/answering (Days 2 and 3) as *individuals* to group work, then you can use Peer Review. You would want to manually assign the peer reviews from the students in Group A to those in Group D, etc. The downside is that if student 1 in Group A is assigned to student 3 in Group D, then S3D sees only S1A's feedback, and not feedback from anyone else in group A. If the feedback should be visible to everyone in the group, then you won't want to use Peer Review, as the current functionality doesn't support this. Probably a better approach for making feedback visible to all group members is to set up a series of differentiated graded Discussions assigned to the MEMBERS of groups A and D, and C and F, and B and E, etc. (See GROUPIES: Group Discussions -- I talk about this type of use case on slide 16.)

• You might have three graded discussion assignments, the first assigned to the members of A and D, the second to the members of C and F, etc. (You wouldn't want to make it a Group Discussion, otherwise it would be visible only to the members of group A, or group B, etc.)
• Enable threaded responses, and create one thread for group A's presentation, and another for Group D's, etc. (You could do this by having one member of each group post their presentations.
• Then have the group members give their feedback as responses within the assigned discussion.
• To provide due dates for these different stages, you can set up no-submission, ungraded assignments as reminders, optionally with links to the discussions embedded in the description.

In your brainstorming above you talk about group discussions -- again, I'd caution against using group discussions (assigned to a group set), as the discussion will be visible to only to the members of the group. You can form "ad hoc" groups through the "Assign to" area that would accomplish what you are trying to do.

Dear Linda

Thanks for thinking this all through - i will revist your suggestions at a later stage. I was rather hoping it would be easier to use Perr review with groups without having to allocate to individuals - a future feature wish...

Since i posted my query i have also thought through workflow with technophobe users and course deliverers in mind ( our learners are consultants etc) and come up with a simpler approach and a way to minimise confusion with too may  threaded posts

6 ordinary discussion areas each set up clearly named e.g. group A video for Group D review and feedback but that any group can see ( i.e. each assigned to everyone and not groups) that each individual member of a reviewing group can use not graded or time restricted as exchanges to be formative	Group assessment point NO actual submission required but students given short instructions on what to do, by when and where - see screenshot below used so have deadline and can be weighted in Grades for marker to provide feedback to each group and its members in one go ( in addition to any comments posted to dicussion poards for formative use)
