The grade posting policy feature in Grade book means that I have to remember to take two steps in order to hide grades, before I start grading. It used to be so simple, I could do it instantly from Speedgrader, and now I have to go back out to Gradebook and choose manual (and remember to scroll all the way down to make Save visible) click Save, and then remember to also Hide grades. I have seen lots of questions about this so I know I am not the only one who finds this tedious, and quite easy to forget. ( I also tried Hide without first choosing Manual, but that seems to show grades as soon as I put them in, which seems very illogical). My question is, can we please simplify this process? I would like to offer this as an Idea, only I'm sure someone else must have, by now? Or is there some other way to just choose Manual and Hide once and for all?

Hi Karin -
I agree. The new/current system sometimes feels more complex than it needs to be. While there's not an immediate solution I can offer, I think you may be interested in this discussion:

For reference, there's an awesome resource available to help with the current process:
Student Grade Visibility Flowchart
Thank you Kristin! I appreciate the flowchart, but even the fact that it is needed makes it clear that something is wrong in the design of this function.
Hi @karin_molander_ and @KristinL I just thought I would add, that while the process is more complicated and hopefully can be simplified at some point if you have grades set to post automatically and wish to hide grades one assignment at a time, the new feature does save time if you want all the grades to be hidden by default and determine when each is released to students or have more control over who grades are released to (see grade posting policy here How do I use the Gradebook?). It would be nice to be able to hide a grade with one button push again if grades are set to post automatically thought!
Thanks Eric. I have to admit that I had not realized, until now, that I can set all grades to hidden by default, in Grade book Settings. Now, this is my bad, for not reading all the guides, but why is this hugely important feature hidden behind a small icon instead of being visible from the start, either on the front page or in Grade book where a lot of other settings are visible up front? There are only TWO settings behind that cogwheel; they or at least this one, could easily have fit on the page. I am sorry, but this sort of haphazard, anti-intuitive design is so irritating.
