When I look at an assignment in Student View, I don't see any instructions telling students how to submit their work. How do they know how to do that?

Once submitted, how do I know how to retrieve student submissions?

If the assignment submission experience isn't intuitive for students, they can use the Canvas Guides to help them navigate through their courses. We typically recommend ‌ and  as a starting point.

Instructors use SpeedGrader to grade students' assignment submissions, as described in ‌.

As to how students know: typically, schools provide students and instructors with introductions to Canvas and its features in the form of training and resources offered on their websites. Have you checked out the resources available at your school? I found a collection of links and guides at this page for instructors:  Canvas | Cal State LA  (you'll find the link to it on the Help button of your global navigation).

I asked because I don't know the answer, and I didn't know what to do if a student asked me. I hadn't read the student guide--and wasn't aware that I was supposed to. Also, I still don't know where the submitted assignments are put so that I can access them. Presumably, it's written down somewhere, but I couldn't find it in the Instructor's Guide. It would be nice if that information were more directly visible. After all, submitting assignments (for students) and looking at submitted assignments (for instructors) are among the primary activities with Canvas. Let's not make it a treasure hunt for faculty and students to find how those activities are performed.
