[ARCHIVED] How do you recover student performance data from a legacy LMS?

We are beginning to plan a transition from Moodle to Canvas. Occasionally we have to recover student information from a previous semester (a grade challenge, for example). We will have all of our LMS data locally archived. However, we will not have a Moodle server to restore the data to. Moodle content generally imports well to Canvas. We tried to import an archived file with student data to Canvas, but were unable to recover student information. Any thoughts on how to mitigate this challenge without running a local Moodle instance?
