[ARCHIVED] How does canvas determine when a student pauses and resumes in a quiz?

I noticed this in the quiz log.  What is the algorithm that Canvas is using to give me this information?  Is it no keyboard activity for a certain amount of time? How long?  Is it opening up another window on the device?  Please explain how this is derived so I know what to do with the information.
