I am trying access assignments & do not see any. How does access them?

It really depends on how your instructor has set up the course.
Sometimes assignments are visible via the Assignments button on the left hand course navigation menu, but this can be hidden by the instructor according to how they want to manage the course.
The assignments might be available via modules, these might be available in the course navigation menu or hidden also. But the modules may be accessed via buttons on the home page.
Essentially it depends on how your instructor has set things up. It might pay to ask them if you are concerned. Or Inbox them if is difficult to do face to face.
Alternatively you could ask a classmate and see how they are navigating around the course.
