The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I must be missing something obvious. I"m trying to set the "Course Details" page to read only for faculty, so they cannot edit the start/end dates, I've turned off every setting I can think of and they still have the ability to edit the start and end dates. Thoughts??
There is not a way to make the Course Details page in a course "read-only" for the Teacher role. You can use javascript to remove some of the features on the page.

@eric_amtsberg , You can't make the entire page read only, but you can prevent some changes from being made by changing/adjusting Instructor permissions. I know for us we have it so that Instructors can't change the course name, course code, or term.
We were able to do this by turning off the ability/permission to "Read SIS data" and (from Admin settings) "Don't let teachers rename their courses." We also don't let faculty add/remove anyone from the course or manage course sections, and have removed the "Permanently delete this course" button, but I think that was through Javascript - similar to what @Robbie_Grant suggested.
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want
to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
