We have a class that is split into two eight-week sections because it is 10 credit hours long (3 hrs a day 3 days a week) and the Powers That Be require us to do so.
So for 8 weeks, students are in section "A", and then they start section "B". We usually just copy the entire course wholesale from A to B using the Copy Canvas Course function, and then copy the grades for what was completed so far (which we export from A and then import to B) since although we have to split it into two sections the grades count for one final grade after 16 weeks.
The problem is, this is incredibly labor intensive as Canvas asks us to go through each and every assignment to confirm it matches an assignment and/or grade in the gradebook (the course has about 40 quizzes, 6 exams, a dozen other assignments, etc etc)... and to add insult to injury, we run three sections a day... so A Morning, A Afternoon, A Night, B Morning, B Afternoon, B Night.
Is there an easier way to do this? We spend literally hours clicking and confirming and exporting and importing every eight weeks. The content and files themselves don't change significantly from semester to semester....
Audrey
PS: and to be extra annoying, every time we do that, it adds that 0% weighted assignment to the list of assignments that we don't use and have to remove each time because we are anal.
Audrey,
I don't know of an easier way to copy grades over. But, what about cross-listing sections A and B together into a single course? Would this appease the "Powers that Be" in terms of using both sections? If cross-listed together there would be no need to copy content or grades because you just keep going with the same course site.

Rick's suggestion is the first place my mind went as well. Were you able to give this solution a try?
Thanks so much for the response! I was virus-ed out of the priority list for now.... but I will bring up this as a possible solution this summer...... I'll keep you posted ![]()
