[ARCHIVED] In Canvas can you gain extra participation points if students open up the same few documents and videos more than once to ensure their placement above the rest of the class?

In Canvas a professor may choose to make a part of the final grade participation which is automatically calculated by Canvas. The Canvas participation grade gives you points per day by opening documents and playing videos put on the platform by the teacher and other similar ways. At the end of the semester it breaks the group up in thirds and gives points based off which third you are in. My question is that if a student knows that the grading is based off of the "Canvas participation" can they keep opening and closing the same few documents and videos to unfairly boost their participation into the upper third while still only looking at the same content.

Kyle,

Canvas does not have a built in method of tracking like this so it must be something custom that the school or instructor is doing.  I'd suggest asking the instructor if it's possible to game the system like you suggest.  They will likely know or know who at your school to ask about it.
