Hello all,
e.g.
-- I have 22 outlines that I want to share in commons and they are in order of week 1, week 2 and so on .. week 22.
-- I have 22 or more/less lecture links that are ties to these outlines and I want to share all of them in commons too.
-- I have questions/quizzes that are also ties to the outlines accordingly.
-- and content-type can be endless such as PDF files for reading materials, Excel files, external inks to survey etc etc etc
My questions are:
1. Does Canvas Commons have a way to group them by e.g. week value so that they can easily be search and choose as a 'set' and build as 'Canvas Module'?
-- e.g. Module 1 with Topic 1 for Week 1 has:
-- 1 outline
-- 1 Lecture link
-- 10 questions
-- e.g. Module 2 with Topic 1 for Week 2 has:
-- 1 outline
-- 2 Lecture links
-- 20 questions
-- an so on ......
-- e.g. Module 21 with Topic 21 for Week 21 has:
-- 1 outline
-- 1 Lecture link
-- 10 questions
-- e.g. Module 22 with Topic 22 for Week 22 has:
-- 1 outline
-- 1 Lecture link
-- 0 questions
Thanks for your time here.

Hey @nnordin , you could group them into modules in a course, and then share that module to commons. This would keep the content grouped together. You could name and add tags to the content in commons so it is searchable by what you wish. Would this accomplish what you're after?

Thanks for your prompt reply, Adam.
It works for now.
It works for us meaning we have to work with the current design and intent of Canvas and Canvas-Commons.
Copying versus Referencing ~ we prefer referencing (for shared contents).
-- one and only one place to update a content-type
-- 'stronger-type' of modular content-type e.g. modular-outline, modular-syllabus and modular-test that are tie to modular-week accordingly. Thus, 'programmatically' we group them up 'nicely' and presentation is independent of data-model.
You might try using a standardized naming convention for your items:
01_Quiz
01_Lecture
01_Questions
02_Quiz
02_Lecture I
02_Lecture II
02_Questions
That would sort them by your intended weeks.
Hi Jill and all,
That may work for our 'degree or credit' programs.
But, for our 'non-degree or professional' programs it would be a challenge due to:
-- some of our clients may require a custom set of modular content thus each set is not necessary in the same order (of week) all the time.
-- it would be nice to have each modular content that is independent of time component (or order component).
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Pick and choose modular content at 'leaf level' ('usable and shareable'), group them or put them in a 'basket', re-order them per client needs and a bonus feature could be the ability to choose a preferred template (and the ability to deliver them on any LMS platform).
I may overuse the CMS (Content-Management-System) term here, basically, the 'usable and shareable' CMS will serve the LMS.
And to extent it further, some of the content type may be useful and they can be shared on organization website, email communication with students or even on a brochure. 'Dynamic shareable content' and changes can be done at one place. Of course Version Tracking and Usage Tracking will be needed.
