My students love the hard copy crossword puzzles that we do to learn French. Going to online teaching/learning, I would like to still be able to have them do these. Is there some option under assignments or quizzes where I can replicate a crossword or be able to create a puzzle? We use manipulatives daily in our learning and we don't want just a regular old matching or fill-in-the-blank.

Hello there, @khollis ...
Canvas does not have any built-in tools to create cross-word puzzles. However, I looked through the EduAppCenter, and there is a third-party integration called Puzzel.org that might be of interest to you. It looks like there are some "premium" features (with a cost) that allow you to have more puzzles in your account. This is their website: Create Own Puzzles: Online, Free and Interactive!.
Hoping that this will be of help to you, Korinne. Sing out if you have other questions about this...thanks. Be well, and stay safe.

I tried Puzzlel.org. It was very easy to use and to supply a link to the students. They could then upload an image to Canvas once they completed it. I look forward to trying more of their tools.
Thanks!
Warning with the app - you cannot see the result unless you have paid a subscription. The students would have to take a screenshot and upload the file, allowing room for user error with middle schoolers. Creating a New Quizzes option with the puzzle/clues as a stimulus is a workaround for this. Each clue would be an attached question, with an exact match for each letter (`l``o``t``s``o``f```t``a``b``s` but no spaces between words) needed for the fill-in-the-blank question type. Make sure you tell the students to use CAPS or lowercase in the directions and to NOT include spaces (unless you did too) in their answers.
