[ARCHIVED] Manage Webhooks. What's a Webhook?

Hi All,

I was perusing the Permissions section of Canvas, and noticed this new (to me) Account permission, "Manage Webhooks".  

What's a webhook?   Is there any documentation on what they are?   What will webhooks do for me?

That looks right to me.    I also found this bit of background in Wikipedia

A webhook in web development is a method of augmenting or altering the behavior of a web page, or web application, with custom callbacks. These callbacks may be maintained, modified, and managed by third-party users and developers who may not necessarily be affiliated with the originating website or application.
