[ARCHIVED] Modules and Assignments for specific students

Hi! I just cannot figure this out on my own....

I am an instructor, and I have only one course (speech therapy).  I created a module titled "week of 4/14/20" and within that module, there is a list of of things (I don't know if they are considered assignments or files?).  Because each assignment or file is designated for specific students (maybe 2 instead of 57 students), I do not know if they are receiving just that one assignment. 

So if I have assigned "Wh questions" for John Doe, when John Doe clicks on the module, is he seeing JUST the "Wh questions" assignment I made for HIM? Or is he seeing this whole list of all these other links? Please see my attachment of the screen shot. On the assignment page, I designed "Wh" questions specifically for John Doe.

Hi Shannon -

When you differentiate assignments, students only see what has been assigned to them, not anything else. As the instructor, you see everything, no matter how many students have been assigned the activity.

Hi Kristin! I had also emailed our media specialist regarding the issue I was having with "specific assignments" designated for "specific students". She asked me to add her as a student so she could see. I added her as a student and designated her to complete one assignment. When she clicked on the module, she could see ALL assignments within that module instead of just the one I designated for her. I have attached her screen shot as to what she was seeing.

She recommended doing groups instead. However, due to confidentiality, I have to make sure that students do not see other students in a group. Any suggestions?

When you adjust the individual assignments, is the only person listed in the "assigned to" field just the single student? What do YOU see when you edit the assignment?

This is what I see when I click on one assignment - this particular assignment was to be assigned to two students. Is it because I'm copying it to my "Mrs.Falcone Speech-Language Course"? Is that what is messing it up?

Likely! Everyone who is a "student" in Mrs. Falcone Speech-Language Course is assigned it too! No need for that grouping if you want only a single student to see it. (I deleted your attachments after I saw them to protect the identity of your students. Thank you for sharing them with me though!)

Hi,

Would it be possible to create a Canvas Community for SLPs?

This would allow us to communicate and share if we're using Canvas for tele-therapy.

Our school district has selected Canvas for all distance learning, and SLPs will also need to use it.
