If I have an old module in an unpublished course can I delete the module from my published course?  I hate having to see all of the modules that have been created and I am only in the 4th week of school.

Deleting the module won't delete any of the content (except for URLs). So if you no longer need the module, you could delete it, then return to the individual assignments, quizzes, pages, discussions, and files in the course later to reconstruct it if you want.

Personally though, I would choose to move the module to the bottom of the list, unpublish it and collapse it. That way it's still in the course, as delivered, but it's unobtrusive.
