The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
Hello, I am relatively new to rubrics. I am trying to create a new rubric for a discussion assignment for the first time. I have decided to copy my discussion assignment into a new sandbox to avoid potential problems with a course which is currently running.
Despite reading the guide on rubrics, I am encountering problems. Are there any instructional videos or other help available? It doesn't help that like many of you I am trying to make a deadline.
Gracias!
Hi there, @ChrisSamuelson …
You can check out Rubrics Overview (Instructors) for a video tutorial of Rubrics. And, if you want to take a deeper dive into Rubrics, then there are several written Guides that you can look at: Instructor Guide: Rubrics - Instructure Community. Building rubrics line by line can be a bit time consuming…especially if you plan on having many rows of criterion in them. So, I use a “Canvancement” (Canvas Enhancement) created by a fellow Community member, @James Jones, called Importing Rubrics from a Spreadsheet. James’ process that is described in his blog post has literally saved me hours upon hours of work when I build courses for our faculty. So, you might want to check out his blog to see if it is of interest to you.
Hope this will help in your course design! Take care, stay safe, and be well.
