I created an account on Canvas, have linked my kids in the observer section but when I try to log into Canvas Parent, I get an error message saying "Not a parent? We couldn't find any students associated with this account"
What am I doing wrong? I'm so frustrated. ![]()
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi ~
I'm glad you were able to connect to your students! That's a wonderful first step, and sometimes, the additional student is challenging for families.
When you sign in with the Canvas Parent app, make sure you find your district before you type in your credentials. Where do I find my institution's URL to access Canvas? You can also tap the "Find My School" button and type in your district.
The easiest way to get into Canvas Parent though is with the new QR Log In!
This will be your quickest route because you've already set-up your account. I think you'll like it a lot. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-24145-41441230736
If you have any follow-up questions about the sign-in process or you would like to learn more about the Canvas Parent app, let the Community know. ![]()

The iOS mobile parent app works perfectly. Something is definitely off with the android parent app at this time. Whenever a parent follows the steps on the Parent App How-To Guides for self-registering on any android device a parent account is created with the students paring code. However, we discovered when you go into the parent app for the first time after you sign-up and start participating, you get the original "Not a parent? We couldn't find any students associated with this account" message with no other options. This seems to be happening with all android users/devices. When attempting to use a browser on an android phone/tablet or the bypass URL in Canvas (institutionname.instructure.com/login/canvas) it is clear that the observer account has been made. It's just not working with the mobile app. Please advise when this issue is resolved or what we can do on our end to help expedite the resolution of the issue. We would like all of our android user parents to be able to use the mobile app as intended without having to use a browser.
I agree the Android App is having issues after scanning the QR code. I get "Not a Parent? We couldn't find any students associated with this account." I also login with a bypass account at: https://capousd.instructure.com/login/canvas. On the website I see both my students under Observering menu. There are no courses loaded by the district yet, so that could be causing the issue as well.
I tried the QR code and still says I don't have an account, although I created on on my laptop, it says try as a student or teacher... This doesn't bode well for a way to communicate and see students assignments.
Have done this. Exactly as my district said to do. Still says "Not a parent? etc." So, not a solution for me. Next solution?
I have an iPhone and I am having the same issue with the parent app as well.
