There is a solution - provided you are not adverse to installing a javascript on your browswer - and providing you are allowed to at your institution.
The following script is one of my all time favorite canvancements by @James .
You will find some of the other options very helpful as well - read through the description with what it does for you.
The rubric canvancement you want is under his QuizWiz (In quizzes) area. Install tampermonkey, then click on the install script links and select the quiz-wiz rubrics_user.js
This script will help with grading classic quizzes as well. However, with rubrics, when you start typing in the comment box, the comment box automatically expands. Also, this canvancement adds in a little arrow next to the save button - use that arrow to save, advance to the next student and open the rubric for that student.
Yes Canvas needs to do something like what James has done with a lot of his Canvancements, but until they do it is nice having his scripts.
