[ARCHIVED] Speed grader-- comment section disappeared

In desperate need of assistance  and my university's tech support is "busy."  I was in the middle of reading a paper in speed grader and I must have clicked on something because the entire right section, where we write comments and enter a grade, is missing.  I've been unable to figure out how to get it back.  Help.  Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,  @caporrimor  Welcome to the Canvas Community! Yes, that can be distressing, and I'm pretty sure I know what happened; it has happened to me as well. Fortunately, if my guess is right, it's an easy fix.

In Speedgrader, you'll see a vertical bar with three dots. Normally it divides the web page so that the student's submission appears on the left in DocViewer, and the area for grades and comments is in a narrower panel on the right. Clicking on the three dots displays the left panel in full page width. I suspect you clicked on that bar in error. You should be able to see it at the far right of Speedgrader (it's now yellow), and when you click on the three dots again, the panel for grade entry and comments will reappear.

I've done this several times while grading, and I could never figure out what I did or how to get it back without quitting the speed grader, re-opening, and starting my comments all over! I was finally able to word my question in a way to find the answer, so thanks!

Hello!

I had the same issue. I wasn't able to see the three dots, but I was able to hit the arrow button to go to the next student paper which cued Speedgrader to ask me if I wanted to autosave the comments I'd already typed before they disappeared. By clicking "proceed" the comments saved and I was able to go back into the student's gradebook to edit the comments and post them.

That gave me such a scare!

Thank you so much for pointing out that the menu flipped-ellipsis thing was now yellow. The ellipsis was not visible for me, and I'm not used to clicking on scroll bars! : )  I probably would never have tried such a thing if you had not said to do so in your answer. Thank you very very much!

The problem is that the 3 dots disappears when this happen. The whole vertical bar now looks yellow. I tried clicking all over the place and can't return to the menu without loosing my work,. CANVAS plaese move those dots further to the left so we can reverse the process.

I just checked in my course, and I have the yellow bar with the ellipses in the center of it(both expanded and collapsed).  Also, if it collapses to where you don't see anything, I can click anywhere on the yellow scroll bar and it re-expands.  What would probably be better would be a solid black bar with white ellipses so that you can easily see it (or see it better than the pale yellow they use - but I am not a vision disability specialist)

On my screen,

If I click on the yellow line it doesn't work, it doesn't re-expand. I finally discovered that if I click on the bottom right yellow part, see arrow on image, it will then re-expand. It is hard to get the correct position. It needs to be easier and marked well. BTW I had to take a photograph to upload this image as there is no attach file!

Well that is definitely different than what I see.  Not sure what would be causing the difference with your version of Canvas.  

Also, there should be an area below the reply box where you can drag and drop files or pictures or browse for a file to attach.
