[ARCHIVED] Speedgrader Annotations Not Visible to Students

I'm an instructor who has been adding comments/annotations within the textbox for SpeedGrader and my students just informed me they haven't seen these.  They see the comments in the "Assignment Comments" section but apparently when I submit the grade all of the annotations I've added within the text box are invisible (although they remain visible to me, so it's not like they didn't save).  What do they need to do to see my comments, or do I need to change something in settings?

Hi James,

There's a couple of ways students should be able to see individual annotations. 

Via Assignments:

• Click Assignments in the Course menu, then the assignment title itself
• On the right-hand side, click Submission details, then click "View feedback" link
• The student will then see the submitted item with comments, and can even reply to each comment.

Or via Grades:

• Click Grades in the Course menu, then the assignment title itself, then the rest is the same as above
• On the right-hand side, click Submission details, then click "View feedback" link
• The student will then see the submitted item with comments, and can even reply to each comment.

I don't see the "Submission details" link on the right hand side after I selected an Assignments either by:

• Click Assignments in the Course menu, then the assignment title itself - or
• Click Grades in the Course menu, then the assignment title itself

Hi, James, 

If Marcus' suggestions above don't resolve the issue, check to see if the 'moderate' setting is enabled on your assignment, if so, you will need to post grades within moderation for students to see the annotated comments.

I've experienced this issue before, where we had the instructor 'unmute' the assignment which released the grade and overall comment to students, but the moderation function hadn't been completed - which kept the annotated comments hidden.

Where is the moderate button?  I can see on in Quizzes but not in assignments.

 @jayde_colquhoun ‌'s solution worked for me. In order for the comments to be visible to the students, the instructor either needed to enter a grade, and post grades, or change the post policy to automatic.

However, in my testing I noticed that it's not necessary to assign a grade to every student:

I assigned a grade to one student, and posted grades to everyone. The comments became visible to all students whether they had been assigned a grade or not. (It's not possible to post grades unless at least one grade has been assigned).

I'm having a related issue which is that after I add markups or comments they are no longer visible to me as the instructor.
