[ARCHIVED] Student Photo Icons Missing

Hi All, 

We can't see the students' profiles on the gradebook. Does anyone know if that is a glitch? #WheresWaldo

Hi Tracie,

As far as I can tell, profile pics/avatars are not displayed in the Gredebook.  None of the documentation I've seen (such ashttps://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-16554-4152813659 ) shows the student avatars being displayed in the Gradebook, though they are displayed in the People listing.

Unless I am tripping, we have been able to see the icons in the gradebook. I looked at the How do I use the Gradebook? It shows that it was updated this month. I wonder if the New Gradebook affected the icons...

The icons/pics have in fact been in the grade book until this semester (Sp 2020). They are now no longer available except through going into the "people" section. They were available in the grade book at Moorpark and CSUN until now!  Since I have been using Canvas I have required ALL my students to post their photos so I can put a face with a name, and know my students better. Whenever I would got to the grading section I would see their photo - if the student did not post a photo I would immediately know they did not comply.  I would then send them a warning to post their pic as it was a requirement for their class. Now I have to go into the people section to check photos.

Why is it that Canvas removes a valuable feature that is used by instructors - as I bet I am not the only one who is frustrated by this change?

There is a new Canvas Gradebook, which was "optional" for a long time but permanently replaced the old gradebook on January 18, 2020.

In addition to the help that you've already received, you can still see the photos of your students via your "Grades" page...by simply clicking on the name of a student.  A slide-out tray will appear on the right side of your screen...as shown in the image near the bottom of this Guide: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-16554-4152813659 (look under "View Grade Detail Tray").  I hope this extra bit of information will be helpful to you, Tracie.
