Hi I'm a para-educator. This platform is really new to my school and a big question is how do I (teachers/paras) view students work while they are working on it. So we can chat with them in the doc or just monitor. It is a function as a para I used a lot to help special needs students, since it still gave the 1-on-1 feel that I miss from working in person.
In google class room I could click on assignments and then click on a student's work and see him/her working on the assignment. Is there something like this in Canvas?
Thank you,
Steven
Hello @ParaSteve ...
I'm not sure if this will meet all your needs, but the closest thing I can think of would be to use Collaborations. Check out Collaborations Overview (Instructors) and Collaborations Overview (Students) video tutorials for more information. There are also written Guides for both instructors and students on this topic.
Thank you for your answering collaborations gave me some good ideas for student projects later in the year. I don't know if this will fit what I'm looking for but thank you.
I have the same question, Steve. After playing around today, I think the only option is if the student shares with Google Doc. with you (and makes you an editor) prior to submitting on Canvas. This is really disappointing.
So one of my teachers just did a bit of a work around. In the canvas assignment she put a doc link, and used the google doc shared folder and I was able to see all the students working ( on each of their own docs not like a giant shared doc). So that was pretty great, however it still using googleclassrooms help. So canvas is like a tiny bit better. In all my classes this will probably only affect 1 or 2 since the teacher has to make it that way.
Also my teacher noticed that when using google classroom/docs along side canvas their are errors that pop up on canvas. Some students say their work shows it incomplete when its already been sent in and some show its complete when they haven't started.
Thanks all for your replies hopefully this last reply helps people who wanted the same thing. If you're the teacher then it should help.
Could you please walk me through the steps in canvas on how you got to where you can observe the kids while they are working please? Thanks!
