[ARCHIVED] Text column in Gradebook that students can see

I want to have a text column that students can see. I want to populate it with a random username to use for other outside postings that I want the students to see but not associate with their colleagues. I set up a non-graded assignment but can't figure out how to set it to allow me to enter a text string. Thanks.

Hi @genellera 

Canvas does not have this functionality. Even with an assignment column in the Gradebook, you would only be able to enter scores or letter grades in the field that students can see.

You could create a new Idea Conversation for this functionality in this community.

Have you considered simply using the comments field in SpeedGrader for this purpose?

Do comments in SpeedGrader export? I want to host an outside spreadsheet that students would see that contains everyone's "leaderboard" name so students can see where they stand in the class. This is part of a gamification approach.
