[ARCHIVED] The total score in the gradebook is not matching with the final score

Hi,

The total score column of the gradebook is not matching with the final score. It is, however, matching with the "current" scores column. I can obtain the final scores by exporting the grades to Excel sheet. However, my student's still see the non-updated grades. Is it possible to know the difference between the current and final scores (the semester is already over) and how to make the gradebook show the final score? Please see below few screenshots for reference.

Hey,  @jmohamed ‌! Make sure that any assignments that remain unsubmitted have zeros entered. If you leave the dashes, it will not calculate as part of the current score. Does that help?

The closest thing I know of is that you can set the default score in the grade book to a zero after you have graded submissions for that assignment. Just don't overwrite the existing grades!

Doing this on each assignment will change the dashes to zeros. I do this as I grade each assignment. That way I do not have to hunt down discrepancies between current and final grades at the end of the term. This was a big issue at my school a few terms ago when we found some faculty using current grades to report term grades instead of the true final grade, and there can be a big difference! If you leave the dash after an assignment should be submitted, Canvas ignores that assignment when calculating the student's current grade.
