Replies to discussion topics in your course should appear immediately. Have you tried a different browser (making sure it is up-to-date) to see if that makes a difference? For example, have you tried viewing your course in Mozilla Firefox vs. Google Chrome (or vice versa)? Those two browsers are the best ones to use when navigating around the Canvas environment.
